Retail Design Case Studies

AT&T -  Custom Retail Environment

The AT&T wireless stores are an excellent example of how, Value Engineering, benefits our clients.

AT&T came to us with a set of store designs done by their architects. It became quite apparent they were thinking one store at a time and they needed a large amount of stores nationwide. Our twenty years in the POP business however, taught us to think of the economies of mass production.

Using our, Value Engineering, we were able to adapt their designs into modules.
A group of these modules would become a store. Since no two stores would be of the same dimension, the modules could be mixed and matched to fit any store configuration.

The economies were immediately evident, construction costs were slashed . The modules could be mass produced, warehoused and shipped anywhere in a matter of days. Installation could be accomplished in a day and the store ready for business the next morning.

Blue Chip Cookies

Blue Chip Cookies is an excellent example of value engineering. The client came to us with two problems, cost and timing. His stores had been designed by a store design firm to be built one store at a time. The stores came in over-budget an could not be construction fast enough to meet the franchisors demand.

Our Value Engineering Team re-worked the existing designs into a modular fixture system. By using a modular design, it would allow fixtures to be mass produced in our factory at a lower cost. This also solved the timing problem as the stores could now be warehoused and shipped to locations across the country for quick installations

Cricket - Custom Retail Environment

Cricket Communications challenged us to develop a solution for fixturing a variety of company stores located in malls and on street locations. No two stores would be the same dimensions.

We designed and produced a modular system that could evolve and adjust to the unforeseeable changes and industry growth, without the need to be, redesigned and re-fixtured every few years.

The program has been a great success, showing a steady increase in sales directly attributed to the stores.  Since the inception of the program in 2004 we have fixtured and installed over 200 stores.

Knuckleheads Gym

From time to time, we get the question, “can you design stores that have no physical product or food to sell”.  The answer of course, is yes!  Knuckleheads is a good example. This is a children’s gym consisting of a room with exercise equipment and a waiting room for the parents.

No matter what, your franchise does, our design and Value Engineering Team has a solution.  Working with you, we can design a turnkey store, to fit your budget.

PLS Tax Services - Custom Retail Environment

In March every year tax cubicles appear in malls and stores nationwide.  They appear to be put together from anything that is available in the back room; portable walls, a desk or table, a computer and a sign saying “We Do Taxes Here”.

Our client PLS decided this type of operation did not fill their needs or convey an image they wished to show customers. They asked us to design and produce a portable office for their currency exchanges. The office needed to be easily set up and dismantled, provide security and give the customer a sense of privacy.

We designed a modular “Store In A Box” for them.  The entire unit unfolds from a 17” x 57” x 50” size to form an 8’ x 3’ office.  We built in secure storage areas along with shelves for manuals and brochures. The back wall contains a locked cabinet for a computer and monitor.  Grey acrylic windows provide privacy as well as the ability to brand the office and promote its services. When the tax season is over the exchange simply folds the unit back up and rolls it into the back room until the following year.

YaketyYak - Custom Retail Environment

We design and build our modular stores to your budget. Sometimes however a client has trouble visualizing their first store and does not adequately budget for its design and construction.

At first Yakety Yak Wireless was looking for a low cost, bare bones type of store. After seeing a design that met their criteria it became apparent that they were visualizing a store that far exceeded their estimated budget.

Our designers went to work and created their ideal store.  At the same time our Value Engineering Group was able to modularize the fixture components. On a volume basis this provided Yakity Yak with an attractive alternative to the original bare bones concept . The client was delighted with the final store design. It met all of their demands and budgets were, revised to account for the increased costs.

We of course plan to be on target for the first go around. Our design team is quite thorough, they will go over your business plan, store ideas and budget, helping you to shape your thoughts into a viable vision for your first store.

USA Subs - Custom Retail Environment

The call we received from Karl Kuceris, was quite exciting.  He was beginning to franchise his USA Subs Restaurant and was looking for “the easiest way to bring his store to market”. The DNI “Store in a Box” concept fit exactly into his marketing plan.

Restaurants are always an added challenge, because of the food equipment, but they still can be designed with a modular concept.

First we look at the equipment list and specifications. Based on the equipment floor plan which is usually 2/3 of any restaurant we then incorporate the equipment into our modular design.

Because of its modularity the restaurant we designed for USA Subs has an advantage over competitive franchises. It is cost effective and can be installed in almost any white box configuration.  Being factory manufactured it came in under budget and very affordable for his franchisees. An added benefit is that the entire store is warehoused, ready to ship and be installed on short notice.
