The Cricket Data Card Slat-wall Display was a difficult security challenge. Our job was to design and produce a secure display that would incorporate a working laptop and two external data entry cards, each about the size of a flash drive.
Theft has always been a major concern in the electronic and wireless industries. You want the customer to have access to the product, but still keep it secured from theft. Dummy phones and laptops have been used for this purpose for a, number years. They are not an ideal solution but they cut down on loss and allow the customer to get a feel for the phone or laptop of their choice. Since this was a live demo we did not have the option to use dummy devices, we had to secure and use the actual product.
Typically security devices require exacting tolerances to work and slat-wall has varying tolerances and grooves. Marrying the two so that they would work together was the challenge that our engineers and designers faced.
First, our engineers found a simple but ingenious way to secure a display shelf to any slat-wall configuration. Once that was done everything else fell into place. Our adjustable slate-wall lock was used to secure a bracket with a pull cord to hold the data card. The laptop was then locked on to the display using a very unobtrusive steel locking device.
Our design passed the test. The laptop and Data Cards are secure from theft and the display is user friendly promoting Crickets new interactive wireless web service. |
